and
"Fastest Alternative Fuels Diesel".
Bonus: Climb Dance
This award winning short film documents Ari
Vatanen''s record-breaking run at the 1988 annual
Pike''s Peak Hill Climb Event in Colorado.
The film was created by Jean Louis Mourey and
captures Vatanen climbing Pike''s Peak in a four
wheel drive, four wheel steer Peugeot 405 T16.
Watch the world famous rally legend rip through
hairpins and glide past sheer cliffs at 14,000
foot elevation from cameras inside, in front,
underneath and above the car. This is by far some
of the most spectacular and nerve bending race car
footage ever recorded. The film has since become
one of the most watched and talked about car films
ever, right up there with the French cult classic
"Rendezvous".
RallyVW's MkIV Golf TDI competed in the Exhibition Class
this year at Pikes Peak International Hill climb and set new
records as the
"Fastest Diesel Car" and "Fastest Alternative Fuels
Diesel".
Cutting over a minute off their previous best time, the TDI
ran 14:03.322 using the Snow Performance Boost Cooler
beating out one of the factory backed VW Touareg V10 TDI
SUV's.
The TDI struggled with excessive EGTs during testing and
qualification runs. With sustained exhaust gas temperatures
of 1600° f over many minutes, the TDI mercilessly killed 3
turbos. Running short on time, RallyVW turned to Snow
Performance for assistance.
A quick stop in at our shop allowed for an evaluation of the
situation followed by an impromtu system installation. After
some quick dyno tuning the TDI was race ready.
Driver Jon Hamilton reported strong, smooth power increases with huge
decreases in EGTs. The combined power gain and exhaust
cooling allowed the TDI to complete its run and in record
time.
